SGDS: household waste collection platform
Charbel Mehinto
Product Designer UI/UX

The problem
Subscriptions are paid in cash to a collector, with no receipt. Missed pickups have no recourse and illegal dumping goes untracked.

The solution
Each household displays a QR code at its door, scanned at every pickup: service is proven, payment is digital and the city tracks rounds and tonnage.

Key features
Subscription and Mobile Money payment with receipt
Door QR code and pickup history
Collector app: daily round, scan, weight, offline mode
Back-office: round tracking, illegal dumping map, reports, tonnage

Design process
Four phases: discovery (interviews, audit of the current service), definition (user flows, information architecture), design (UI, design system, prototype) and delivery (landing page, specs).

Design choices
Leaf green #2E7D32 for cleanliness and trust, forest green #0F2A1D for text, lime #7CB342 as the accent and earth #8D6E4B for field content. The door QR code and the receipt are put forward to prove every pickup.

Landing page
A landing page presents the offer, shows the app and the back-office, and drives downloads.

Deliverables
iOS and Android mobile app
Web back-office
Landing page
Design system, Behance presentation and LinkedIn carousel

My role
User research and personas, user flows, information architecture, high-fidelity UI design, design system and interactive prototype in Figma. Screens are produced with a custom TypeScript Figma plugin driven by a UI kit, with accessibility checks: 4.5:1 contrast, 44 px touch targets, errors never conveyed by colour alone.
Unofficial portfolio concept, not commissioned by the organisations mentioned.
