Assurance Zem: health micro-insurance for informal workers
Charbel Mehinto
Product Designer UI/UX

The problem
In Benin, most informal workers have no health cover. One accident or hospital stay can wipe out months of income in a single day.

The solution
Insurance designed around daily income: three-step sign-up, daily Mobile Money contributions, a digital member card, photo-based claims and QR-code direct billing at partner health centres.

Key features
Guided sign-up: profile, plan, beneficiaries
KKiaPay checkout (Mobile Money, card) with pending, success and failure states
Claims with guided document photos and offline deferred upload
Back-office: claims queue, case review, members, health centres, roles and permissions

Design process
Four phases: discovery (interviews, audit of the current service), definition (user flows, information architecture), design (UI, design system, prototype) and delivery (landing page, specs).

Design choices
Lemon yellow #FADB2A, the colour of zémidjan jerseys, asphalt #1E1E24 for text and health green #1F7A4D for reimbursements. Bricolage Grotesque for headings, Instrument Sans for body text; photo claim flow designed to work offline.

Landing page
A landing page presents the offer, shows the app and the back-office, and drives downloads.

Deliverables
iOS and Android mobile app
Web back-office
Landing page
Design system, Behance presentation and LinkedIn carousel

My role
User research and personas, user flows, information architecture, high-fidelity UI design, design system and interactive prototype in Figma. Screens are produced with a custom TypeScript Figma plugin driven by a UI kit, with accessibility checks: 4.5:1 contrast, 44 px touch targets, errors never conveyed by colour alone.
Unofficial portfolio concept, not commissioned by the organisations mentioned.
